Memery
The Munchkin Wrangler has started a new meme.
Interesting. This will take some thought. You have the opportunity to make a visit to the past. You get to pick one calendar year in the history of the United States, starting with its first full year of existence after declaring independence, 1777, and ending with the last full calendar year, 2007.
Your visit will start a minute after midnight on the 1st of January of that year, and end a minute before midnight on December 31st.
The ground rules are as follows:
With these rules in mind, which year do you pick for your visit, and why?
- This is a trip for education and/or entertainment. You may not interfere with history in any way. No assassinations, no “prescient” warning letters with details about the future mailed to world leaders, no procreation. You will be temporarily sterile for the duration of the trip, so you won’t be able to do silly stuff like being your own grandparent. Assume that any intentional attempt to influence history will cause the instant termination of your stay in the past. (No refunds.)
- You may not set your future self up for financial gain in any way. No mass purchase of IBM or GE stock during Black Friday of 1929, no Microsoft or Apple stock in the 1980s. No setting up of savings accounts or any other interest-bearing mechanism.
- You may not bring anything in, nor take anything out. You will enter the year with a set of period-appropriate clothing on your body, and another in a suitcase. You will also carry enough period currency with you to live comfortably and travel around at will for a year.
- You may not leave the continental United States for the duration of your visit, nor contact any of your ancestors. No trips to meet the great-grandparents before their kids emigrated to the New World, and no warnings or advice. Tough rule, I know…but we can’t have you telling your great-grandpa about the coming Depression or WWII, even if it wouldn’t influence history overall.

5 Hottest FHM Women
Taking a page from Kim:
Here are my answers:
1. Kate Beckinsale

2. Elisha Cuthbert

3. Angelina Jolie

4. Charlize Theron

5. Mila Kunis

It would be rude to forget the runners-up.
Megan Fox - Her role in Transformers was....yummy.
Summer Glau - I've never craved carnal knowledge of a machine until the Sarah Connor Chronicles
Alyssa Milano - I've had a crush on her for at least 20 years
Natalie Portman - Luke Skywalker's mom? Oh, yes.
Keira Knightly - She's bony too often, but when she let's herself fill out a bit, watch out.
Using ONLY the FHM Top 100 List (below the fold), pick your own top 5, and list them in Comments, in descending order of preference/delectability.Here's the list, with links to pictures of the women.

Wayback Memery
Via Jay G, I find Scaryduck has started a meme.
Post your oldest email.
First, I've had a hotmail account since 1996. Yes, that long ago. I also have a 5 digit ICQ number.
Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, I let the hotmail account lapse, and it went inactive, killing my archaeological treasure trove of early spam and joke forwards. It's been resurrected, but only as a dumping ground for questionable website registrations and MSN Messenger.
So, going back to my last un-backed-up computer crash, my earliest email is dated 11/20/2001. Here it is:

I sat, as did millions of other Americans, and watched as our government underwent a peaceful transition of power. I was proud as Mr. Bush took his oath of office.
I was sad as I watched Mr. Clinton board Air Force One for the final time. It may surprise you that this made me sad, but watching this part of the days festivities, I saw 21 United States Marines in full dress, with M-16s, fire a 21 gun salute to the outgoing President.
It was then that I realized how far America's military had deteriorated.
