Your bias is showing.

http://wcco.com/crime/shooting.minneapolis.minnesota.2.1444465.html

The offensive text from my newsreader:
Police said a robbery sparked Wednesday's murder in Minneapolis, but it wasn't the robbers who did the killing.
...
Police said three men went to a home near Irving and Plymouth Avenues on Wednesday night to get money they thought was owed to one of them.

Travis Koehn, 25, and Curtis Harrell, 19, and Orlando Nunn went in the house and in the basement where the intended robbery victim and his friend were hanging out.

The men started fighting, and Nunn pulled a gun out and pointed it at the victim and ordered both men to get down on the ground and get their money out.

Police said at some point Nunn got too close to the victim with the gun and the victim grabbed the gun, struggled for a bit, then shot and killed Nunn.
...
At this time, the robbery victim does not face any charges for killing Nunn.

That's a happy ending, even if the reporter seems sad that the intended victim isn't charged with murder.

Reason to carry a gun, #542,138

Violent thugs do not get cooperation. Cooperation encourages thuggery. At best, you have even odds to escape unscathed if you cooperate with a violent criminal. An armed response is the most reliable method of ensuring you go home in one piece.
He turned around and saw three men about a block away but thought nothing of it and continued walking, police said.

According to police reports, he was then punched in the back of the head and knocked to the ground where he was punched another 10 to 15 times in the head and face by the three unidentified men.
Deter, detect, delay, destroy.

Carry a gun-everywhere, every day. This victim was lucky the thugs stopped at taking his teeth and his wallet. They obviously have no respect for life or property. Unnecessary viciousness is a hallmark of modern street crime. Defend yourself in the best way possible.

If a dog is rabid...

...do we have to let it grow up before putting it down?

"They locked me up and threw away the keys," Lotts, now 23, said from prison. "They took away all hope for the future."

Lotts is one of at least 73 U.S. inmates -- most of them minorities -- who were sentenced to spend the rest of their lives in prison for crimes committed when they were 13 or 14, according to the Equal Justice Initiative, a nonprofit organization in Alabama that defends indigent defendants and prisoners.

Don't Mess With Us

Americans don't like being hijacked.

It’s another Gird Your Loins moment for the Obama administration.

Somali pirates have now hijacked a U.S.-flagged ship with 20 American crew members on board - the first in “recent memory” according to military officials. The vessel is one of the DoD’s top shipping contractors. The vessel was taking humanitarian aid to Mombasa.

What will BO do?

When we get hijacked, we express our displeasure. Consider that a lesson learned.
Two graduates of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy are among the 20 Americans on board who overpowered the group of pirates that hijacked the vessel.

Somali pirates hijacked the cargo ship Wednesday hundreds of miles from the nearest U.S. military vessel in some of the most dangerous waters in the world.Late Wednesday morning, the military confirmed that the crew had regained control of the vessel by overpowering the pirates, taking one pirate into custody and throwing three overboard.

Lucky President*. Thanks to the resiliency and independence of the American sailors, he doesn't have to take a stand.

Bad Parenting

The WCCO is now championing the cause of worthless POS child abusers.
In 2007, social workers got 1,076 reports of possible child abuse at homes in the county. In 2008, there were 1,270 reports, and that number and other disturbing ones show no signs of going down this year.

"Very concerning," said Victoria Johannes with the agency.

She blames one thing: the economy. She said she doesn't know for sure why the number of reports is up, but she thinks parents might be taking out their frustrations on their children, because they're worried.

You don't beat and abuse your children because you're worried about their well-being. You beat your children because you are a worthless parent who would have been better off sitting on a table saw at the onset of puberty.

Note: there is a (bigbigbig) difference between abuse and discipline.

Rampage Murders

Rampage murderers are stopped by active, armed opposition. When confronted, they either commit suicide, or the opposition kills them. Until they are opposed, they will continue the rampage every time.

The only solution to rampage murders is a widespread armed citizenry.
"He was going to go until he was stopped, by himself or someone else," said Col. Chris Murphy of the Alabama Department of Public Safety.

The motive: He was a worthless POS who was tired of being a worthless POS, so he killed as many of his friends, family and former coworkers as possible, cementing himself in the worthless POS category for all of history.

Thuggery Close to Home

Again. Dammit. This is two minutes from wrestling practice. I drive past this place often. Several times a week.

Monday, March 2 - Brooklyn Center Police are looking for a man who shot another man in the leg this afternoon in the parking lot at the BP gas station at 6044 Brooklyn Boulevard.

At 1:10 p.m. today Brooklyn Center Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at the station. Responding officers found a 23-year-old man who had been shot once in the leg.

MS13 and the Suburbs

A 15-year-old male and an 18-year-old male were shot in the parking lot outside JC Penney at Southdale Center in Edina around 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27.

I know someone listening on the scanner. The police reportedly said that this was MS13, which was officially not in Minnesota a few months ago. MS13 is one of the most violent gangs running.

I hate watching violent crime and gang activity migrate. Especially to a location visible from my office building. But hey, that's no reason to carry, right?

Update: It's officially MS13.

Phoenix

It's too bad there isn't a good smiley for the flushing sound.

“Phoenix, Arizona has become the kidnapping capital of America, with more incidents than any other city in the world outside Mexico City, and over 370 cases last year alone.”

First runner up for kidnapping capital of the world. And the kidnappers aren't friendly.

International Safety

(CNN) -- Smugglers carrying a boatload of migrants forced their passengers to jump overboard in deep water off the coast of Yemen, causing up to 17 to drown, the United Nations said Tuesday.

The 52 Somali and Ethiopian passengers in one of seven boats crossing the Gulf of Aden were made to jump after the smugglers spotted police and refused to sail closer to shore, the U.N's refugee agency UNHCR said in a statement.

Of course, it would be criminal to allow ships coming in to port to have guns and-I don't know-a chance at survival, wouldn't it?

Reason to carry a gun, #654,328

Sgt. Mike Mitchell says a woman and a man called police, saying they were in a vehicle that was being followed and rammed by another vehicle.

Mitchell says police told the couple to drive to the police station. He says the two vehicles stopped outside the police station and Springer left his vehicle and tried to get inside the other car.

Mitchell says when that failed, Springer went back to his vehicle and retrieved a hammer.

There is never a good reason NOT to carry.

Man with gun arrested after chase

http://www.sctimes.com/article/20090223/NEWS01/102230051
A man who had attracted police attention by knocking on doors in north St. Cloud was arrested with a gun in his possession after he led them on a 13-mile chase, police said.

The events started at 11:32 p.m. Sunday at the 5500 block of Knollwood Drive.

Police said they received a report of a suspicious man knocking on doors of houses. Officers found the man’s pickup and tried to stop him at Stearns County Road 120 and Minnesota Highway 15, police said. The driver sped off, reaching speeds of about 90 mph. The pursuit lasted for 13.4 miles and ended near Stearns County Road 47 and Minnesota Highway 23 after hitting spike strips that a Stearns County deputy had placed. The driver tried to run away and was arrested with help from a Waite Park police dog.

Knocking on random doors, carrying a gun illegally, then running from the police. Was this a home invasion waiting to happen?

People wonder why I don't open my door if I don't know who's knocking.

True Survival

Absolutely fascinating survival accounts.
Our block was completely overrun and we were actually forced to take a stand and defend our home with rifles - in Los Angeles! Several times we had to take aim at looters and thank god they ran - because I had every intention of shooting. It was literally like a war zone. The riots lasted days and did not stop until the National Guard showed up. I have since read that it was the 7th infantry division and additional Marines from Camp Pendleton that were deployed to Los Angeles. From our perspective it didn't matter where they came from they were a welcome site. It was surreal to see US Soldiers walking through our neighborhood. We could not travel more than a block from our home for days without the chance of major conflict.

Bad Burglar!

Rosario: Somebody's broken into my house.

Operator: I'm sorry?

Rosario: Somebody's broken into my house!...I just drove their car away. They've got nothing.

Operator: Their car?

Rosario: Yeah, I know. I stole their car.

Operator: OK, you can now be charged for that, so stop.

Forsaken: Vengeance

From here, regarding this:

This just makes me angry. It doesn't help that I have both a 2 year old and a baby named Grace.

I could skin those monsters alive, both with a smile on my face and hate in my heart.

That poor girl, tortured by the people who are designed to provide comfort and protection. Saying "I love you" as she was whipped and drowned and thrown across the room by people forsaking their sacred duty.

With the death penalty off the table, I'm hoping for life in prison, with the cries of that beautiful little girl echoing in their minds every minute of every day.

The Law of Obvious Consequences

Gee, when we we let a known enemy go free, so he can go through a "rehabilitation program for former jihadists", who would guess he returns to the fight?

Mercy, that's what the Gitmo terrorist need.

New Virginia Tech Tragedy

BLACKSBURG, Virginia — A graduate student from China has been charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of a female student on the campus of Virginia Tech, the first killing at the American university since a deadly mass shooting in 2007.

An electronic alert system revamped after the massacre warned students to stay in place while police investigated the incident around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday — about half an hour after the suspect was taken into custody. Students were cleared to resume normal activity about an hour later.

Don't allow your students the proper tools of self defense, and don't do a damn thing to protect them. That's good policy making.
