Failure of State-Sponsored Protection

Or..

Reason # 123154 why I carry a gun:
Over many torturous hours, she had been repeatedly raped, sodomized and forced to perform oral sex, a prosecutor told a jury on Thursday. The accused, Robert A. Williams, 31, had doused the woman’s face and body with boiling water and bleach, forced her to swallow handfuls of pills and to chase them with beer, sealed her mouth with glue, and bound her wrists and legs with shoelaces, cords and duct tape, said the prosecutor, Ann P. Prunty. And now, Ms. Prunty said, he was asking the woman to gouge out her own eyes with a pair of scissors.

Here's how it started:
As the woman entered her apartment, Ms. Prunty said, Mr. Williams asked her if she knew where a Mrs. Evans lived. The woman stopped to answer.

"Her kind moment of hesitation would cost her," Ms. Prunty said.

Mr. Williams forced his way into the apartment, Ms. Prunty said, put the woman in a chokehold, and slapped her cellphone from her hand. Mr. Williams slammed the door behind him, and "her Friday the 13th nightmare began," Ms. Prunty said.

A cell phone is NOT a defense.

Kevin's take:
The anti-gun people tell victims to "give their attacker what they want." He wanted her body. He wanted her to gouge out her own eyes. Instead, she attempted to end her own life.

How can anyone believe that it is morally superior to submit to a rapist rather than carry a gun and have at least the chance to shoot the bastard?

This could be you, your sister, daughter, wife, mother. Please, take a "Refuse to be a Victim" course. Learn how to spot the danger signs. Learn how to protect yourself, even if you are unable to be armed. Don't let anything like this happen to you, or someone you love. No one should have to endure this. No one should have to deal with its consequences.

I really need to pick up my Refuse To Be A Victim certification.

Despicable

Conning an active-duty, deployed soldier should be the equivalent of treason, and punishable by firing squad.
Aeren Nauman, a member of the Minnesota National Guard, returned to the Twin Cities after serving on active duty in Iraq from October, 2005, to Aug. 22, 2007. He soon discovered, he told police, that his father had allegedly used two forged powers-of-attorney forms to open bank accounts, establish lines of credit in his name and transfer the funds to accounts associated with Leonard Nauman.

Since it's his father, I think the firing squad should start with the feet.

Minneapolis 4th Precinct Highlights

I don't even know what to say about this, but it sure kicked over my giggle box:
A female, the former girlfriend of the victim’s baby’s dad, pointed a gun at the victim and her children while driving down Lowry. Suspect was located at her home.

Don't go for rides with strangers. There were planning to kill this guy for $125.
Victim said he was picked up by an unknown female in South Minneapolis and when they arrived here an unknown male who’d been hiding in the van grabbed him, put a gun to his neck and $125 and ID from his pocket. When the victim jumped out of the van and fled the suspect fired at him three times.

My Vow

I was reading this article and the associated comments. The article, for the benefit of the lazy, was about a recent home invasion and the comments discussed potential vs proper responses to violent thugs breaking into your house.

In the invasion in question, the phone line was out, probably cut. The police, therefore, were not coming.

This comment was made:
dont forget even those 'old' cell phones that are turned off (no service plan), can still be used to dial 911. Keep one in the bedroom on the charger. Hear the perp break down the door, dial 911 drop the phone, grab the gun.. and very loudly yell for the intruder to leave or they will be shot, that 911 recording will make for a good defense in court.

The response, by someone calling himself(or herself) 'Rational Radical', was this:
Maybe, but how will your soul feel when you found out you just blasted a teenager that is starving.

A timely(unfortunately) posting on Kim's site, quoting this article prompted my response in a discussion on another site:
Better than my soul would feel if some feral teenager raped my wife before strangling her, then raped my daughters before burning them alive, while I'm bound and trying to squirm to the neighbor's house for help.

To be perfectly clear: I did not invent that. It happened, in the NY Times article linked above.

You may want to stop reading. The details make me want to do unpleasant things to criminals. The details keep me awake at night, every time I hear the story. The details make me weep.

Last August, two feral thugs in Connecticut broke into a family's home. They tied up the entire family. The raped and strangled the mother, then raped and burned the daughters alive to hide DNA evidence.

I told you that, I put you through that horrible experience, so I could tell you this:
I swear this, on my life, my freedom, and my honor: Evil like this will not touch my family while I draw breath.

I will shoot, stab, kick, scratch, paw or otherwise destroy, anyone trying to harm my family, without reservation.

I do not care if the feral thug in my living room is starving. I don't care if he's stealing my television to feed his starving kids. I don't care why he is my home. I have to assume, for my family's safety, that he is there to do us harm.

Another man's poverty, another man's addiction, another man's unfortunate lot in life, is not enough for me to surrender my life, or that of my family. It is not enough to cause me to subject my family to any form of torture or terror.

If you come near my family with intent to do harm, I will come at you with everything I have. I will fight you with my dying breath, and if you manage to overcome me, I will do my best to rend your soul.

There is nothing that I won't do to keep that terror out of the hearts of my children.

You have been warned.

Big City Disasters

A downtown tornado? It could happen

The article doesn't say what could happen or what would happen. It's purely a scaremongering piece and openly admits that.

However, in the spirit of scaremongering, what would happen if a tornado rolled through North Minneapolis? Where would those people go, and what would they do when they got there?

What would happen in a natural disaster hit your local ghetto-ish area? Remember Katrina?

Rules for the Police

Via LawDog, I bring you The Peelian Principles, which are considered to be the basic foundation for all modern policing:

1) The basic mission for which the police exist is to prevent crime and disorder.

2) The ability of the police to perform their duties is dependent upon the public approval of police actions.

3) Police must secure the willing co-operation of the public in voluntary observation of the law to be able to secure and maintain the respect of the public.

4) The degree of co-operation of the public that can be secured diminishes proportionately to the necessity of the use of physical force.

5) Police seek and preserve public favor not by catering to public opinion, but by constantly demonstrating absolute impartial service to the law.

6) Police use physical force to the extent necessary to secure observance of the law or to restore order only when the exercise of persuasion, advice, and warning is found to be insufficient.

7) Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent upon every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.

8) Police should always direct their action strictly towards their functions, and never appear to usurp the powers of the judiciary.

9) The test of police efficiency is the absence of crime and disorder, not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with it.

Strangers knocking on the door

From the Minneapolis Police Precinct 2 Update:

The Precinct received two calls this week from relatives of elderly people in the precinct. One of the seniors lives in Prospect Park and the other in Windom Park. In each case, the relative was told that two people dressed in uniforms had knocked on the front door. When the door was answered, the resident was asked if he/she had an emergency. When they answered no, the two parties asked to be let in to use the telephone. At this point, we do not have a clear discription of the uniforms, so it could be a service company, police, or other type of uniform.

And the advice:

* Do not let strangers into your home.
* Install good locks on doors and windows and use them.
* Install peepholes on front and back doors at your eye level. This is especially important if you use a wheelchair.
* Ask for identification from service or delivery people before letting them in to the property. If you're the least bit concerned, call the company to verify.
* Call your crime prevention specialist for a free home security survey to help identify your individual security and safety needs. In the second precinct, the Crime Prevention Specialists are Rick Maas (673-2797) for the area north of Broadway; and Carol Oosterhuis (673-2874) for the area south of Broadway.
* Get involved in your block club. Watchful neighbors who look out for you as well as themselves are a frontline defense against crime.

Just because someone is in a uniform doesn't make them who they say they are.

Minneapolis 4th Precinct Highlights, WEEK 529 –MARCH 11 - 17, 2008

This kicked over my giggle box:
26th & COLFAX MONDAY 2010 HOURS 08-075393

15 year old female and long time friend, whose last name, physical description or address she didn’t know, were walking down 26th when she was shot in the buttocks. Victim said they crossed paths with a large group of males who stared them down and then she heard shots fired. Related – Weapon Recovery 08-075403

Vicious pack of thugs this week:
20XX RUSSELL WEDNESDAY 1758 HOURS 08-070114

31 year old male severely beaten and numerous of his items had been taken. Suspects fled and after a foot chase two of five were caught

29TH & JAMES THURSDAY 2000 HOURS 08-071607

27 year old male jumped by four or five males, one with a knife, who beat him and took $15.00 from him.

So much for avoiding problems by locking your doors.
BROADWAY & PENN SATURDAY 0300 HOURS 08-072914

36 year old male in town from NY working at the MOA got lost after dropping off a security guard and stopped to ask four males at the intersection for directions. Why turn in the freebie? It should be a perk of any new home purchase.
35XX COLFAX THURSDAY 1200 HOURS 08-070975

Officers flagged down by a male who’d recently purchased a house and upon cleaning it out found a 22 caliber revolver.

Reason #2679 to carry a gun

Goth clothes 'prompted killing'
A 15-year-old boy kicked and stamped to death a woman because she was dressed as a Goth, a court heard.

As I said on an email list:

This is getting to be more common. I was going to say "more common in
the UK", but it's not just there. I run a website tracking home invasion in Minnesota, and I see lots of crime reports. There isn't a week that goes by that doesn't include a pack of thugs stomping someone during a mugging. It seems to be standard procedure for a mugging in some areas.

There is a certain subset of civilization(not race/religion/nationality based) that holds life to have no value, because they apparently don't value themselves in any way. Stomping someone to death over the $10 in their wallet, or the color of their
lipstick is somehow acceptable, because they don't consider their own lives to be worth that same $10.

There's a reason I carry a gun and teach carry permit classes.

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Just give them what they want...

...and they'll leave you alone, right?

Wrong.

OLSON HWY & HUMBOLDT MONDAY 2040 HOURS 08-068206

Female/61, kicked, punched, pushed to the ground by five 20-25 year old males old who also took $10 from her.

Bastard thugs should be retroactively aborted.

Places to Avoid, Part 2, the Update

Update to this story:

Less than a week after shots were fired near the Best Buy store in Brooklyn Center, a Minneapolis man has been arrested and charged with three counts of felony drive by shooting.

According to statement from the Brooklyn Center Police Department, Tyriek Montauge Tyner, 18, of Minneapolis, was arrested the Friday, Feb. 8, in connection with the drive-by shooting that occurred in the parking lot of Best Buy in Brooklyn Center.

Charges were filed on Monday, Feb. 11.

I hope you rot in prison.
If found guilty of all charge[sic], the penalty for each felony offense of drive by shooting is 3 to 10 years and/or $20,000 for each count.

I hope you get the sentences consecutively. Thirty years of your life is not too much to ask for endangering countless innocent bystanders in your little pissing match.

Minneapolis PD Highlights February 5-11 2008

11XX JAMES THURSDAY 1030 HOURS 08-036855

A father found a BB gun in his son’s bedroom.

WTF? Why would you call the cops on your son, for a BB gun?

Demond Reed

There are times when I wish Minnesota had the death penalty.

When 4-year-old Demond Reed soiled his pants last week, his purported caretaker, Carla Poole, began to beat him, ordering her 4- and 6-year-old sons to hold down his arms.

That's the nice part of the story. The poor kid died, being beaten by the caretaker his father selected when he was sent to jail.

Requiescat In Pace, Demond.

Minneapolis Police Highlights - week of 29 January - 4 February, 2008

It's been an interesting week.

400 blk 33rd St E: Officers assisted SWAT officers with search warrant; SWAT officer forced to shoot pit bull dog while entering residence, dog died; 5 people found inside residence, 1 suspect had almost 5 grams of possible meth; approx 12 grams marijuana found in residence; 4 others in residence cited for Participating in Disorderly House; replica handgun recovered along with several photos of gang members, documents, photos of handguns on cell phone, $442.: Arrested/ NARCOTICS

A little bit of pot, a little bit of meth, a replica gun, and some pictures of guns and gang members. My questions: What exactly constitutes Participating in a Disorderly House? and Is this really worth a SWAT-capade?

100 blk W Lake St: Officers called to Assault; victims walking to car when approached by 3 men, 1 woman; 1 man pulled out knife, stabbed victim in back without saying anything;

No robbery, no threats, just a knife in the back. Hmm, is there a reason I carry a gun?

Arrested: AGGRAVATED ROBBERY: 1900 blk Clinton Av S: Victim was getting into car for work when two occupants of car (license plate: MN JDD-826) pulled in front of victim’s car, blocked it; 2 suspects then exited their car, announced robbery. when victim started to resist, armed suspect fired shot in the victim’s direction; victim gave suspects over $1500 in cash, suspect fled in victim’s car, left their vehicle at scene; victim’s car later found in Anoka Co unoccupied; Sgt assigned to case identified 1 suspect, tracked him to Moundsview residence; suspect had DOC warrant, arrested suspect, search warrant conducted

If you're going to resist, resist with a weapon. Shoot the bastards who are threatening your life.

2 Arrested: AGGRAVATED ROBBERY/CARJACKING: 13th Av/9th St S: Victim sitting in car outside 9th St address when attacked by suspect who forced his way into the unlocked car, attempted to snap victim’s neck; victim escaped but suspect took car which also contained the family dog; several hours later 3rd Precinct officers saw victim’s stolen car, began pursuit suspect attempted to flee on foot, captured by K-9 officer; victim positively identified suspect

Obviously, this thug got his start in a life of crime by believing what he saw in the movies.

4 Arrested: ROBBERY: Morgan Plymouth Avs N: Victim walking in front of Precinct when robbed my former classmate at gunpoint;case declined for charging, pending further investigation

Idiot. Don't mug folks in front of the police station. Can we start offering IQ tests before we let people become criminals? Oh wait, the crooks don't care about the laws.

2 Arrested: 700 blk 22nd Av NE: 20-month child brought to HCMC with multiple broken ribs, severe internal injuries; investigators conducted numerous interviews; stories inconsistent with evidence; child’s mother, mother’s boyfriend charged with MALICIOUS PUNISHMENT OF CHILD/CHILD NEGLECT

These people need to be introduced to the electric chair. There is no excuse for beating a 20 month old baby. Reject their air-use license.

Arrested: 3000 blk 36th Av S: Officer responded to DOMESTIC ASSAULT call; victim reported suspect punched, kicked her while she lay on floor, with her children present; suspect grabbed victim by throat, continuing to punch her; suspect charged with felony DOMESTIC ASSAULT/TERRORISTIC THREATS

Ladies, if your boyfriend is choking you, it is attempted murder. Defend yourselves!

Interesting

This is a reassuring thing to see. Apparently, searching for "home invasion" atf will get you to one of my sites.

Hi, Mr. Government Man. I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Reasons to carry a gun

1. The police can't be counted on to save you.
a gunman stormed a council meeting and opened fire, killing two police officers and three city officials.

The cops were already there, and couldn't react in time. What happens if you have to dial 911, first?

2. Restraining orders are meaningless.
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio—Christi Layne was terrified of her husband, court records and her attorney say. After she moved out, she got a restraining order against him and had an alarm system installed.

But none of that mattered Thursday morning when he marched into a Catholic school, fired a gun and then stabbed her—right in front of her class of fifth-graders.

This one comes with a corollary that gun-free zones don't stop the criminals.

Places to Avoid

Avoid Big Box stores in the ghetto, or just north of the ghetto.

Shopping at Best Buy, then, suddenly a rolling gunfight comes into the neighborhood.

Shots were fired the afternoon of Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the area of the Best Buy store at 5925 Earle Brown Drive in Brooklyn Center.

Earlier in the afternoon, officers responded to a call of a fight between two groups at the Brookdale Regional Service Center at 6125 Shingle Creek Parkway in Brooklyn Center.

A short time later reports were received which indicated the suspects who had been involved in the altercation at the Service Center had fled to the area of the Best Buy store and that shots had been fired between the two groups. Responding Brooklyn Center Police officers and deputies from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office arrested some of the people involved.

The preliminary investigation established no one was hurt in the incident.

In a press release from Best Buy, "Our thoughts are with those affected by the shooting in the parking lot of our Brooklyn Center store. We can currently confirm that no employees were injured. We are shocked by this incident and are fully cooperating with the local law enforcement to provide any information useful to the investigation."
